Real Madrid hold on to their top spot thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo who scored a brace in their 2-1 win against the struggling Sporting Gijon.

Vazquez won a penalty when he was tripped in the area by Sergio Alvarez and Ronaldo slid the penalty under Mariño’s dive making the most of the slippery ground.

Ronaldo grabbed his second when Nacho curled in the perfect cross from the left and he headed it into the far corner.

Real Madrid might have felt that was game over but Sporting had caused Pepe and Sergio Ramos problems and when Luka Modric gave the ball straight to the Moi Gomez he crossed and Carlos Carmona made it 2-1.

Real Madrid are seven points clear above their nemesis Barcelona who will play against Real Sociedad away today(Sunday). They will be hoping that Real Sociedad will pull an upset that will them momentum in their El Clasico next week.
