Sevilla have ended Real Madrid unbeaten run since they last lost against Borussia Dortmund in April. Since then, they have gone 40 games unbeaten, winning 31 times and drawing 9 times before last night defeat.
Coach Jorge Sampaoli is really shaping Sevilla to his ideals and their attacking instincts and never say die attitude reminds me of Chile under him.
Real Madrid coach Zidane gave Sevilla enough respect by selecting three defenders for this encounter. This helped stifled Sevilla’s attack but on the other hand, Real Madrid had limited options going forward. The first half ended in stalemate.
In the second half, Real Madrid changed gear and began on the offensive. In the 66th minute, Dani Carvajal was brought down by Sevilla goalkeeper Segio Rico and Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to give Real Madrid the deserved advantage in the 67th minute.
In the final quarter, former Man City player Jovetic was introduced to make his LA Liga debut. Sevilla began pressing and their efforts yielded result when their former player Sergio Ramos rose above Varane to head into his own net in the 84th minute. Ramos had a difficult evening and every of his touch was jeered by the Sevilla fans who were angered by Ramos celebration in their Copa Del Rey 3-3 draw in midweek.
Jovetic ended Real Madrid 40 games unbeaten run with his fine finish in the 91st minute. He has now scored two in two matches.
Sevilla are now second with 39 points just one point behind league leaders Real Madrid who have a game in hand.
