Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso 35, has confirmed report of his decision to hang up his boot this summer.  

The former Liverpool player told the Bayern Munich hierarchy of his decision to retire during their winter break and the board assured him that the door remains open should he change his mind according to German newspaper Sport Bild. 

Alonso began his career with Real Sociedad 18 years ago before moving to Liverpool in 2004 where he won the champions league, super Cup and the FA Cup before joining  Real Madrid in 2009 for £30m. 
He had another successful 5 years with Real Madrid.  After winning the LA decima with Madrid, he joined the German champions; Bayern Munich till  date.
