Paris St Germain owners are finally reaping the benefits of their huge investments in the last seven years.
PSG were clearly not the favorite when this draw was made in December.  But Unai Emery team showed how far they have come in the European elite competition.

PSG began the game with drive and purpose. They were very determined to change history and worked their socks off for a every ball. The midfield trio of Matuidi, Verratti and Rabiot stifled the creativity of Barcelona attack that looked all night bereft of ideas except for Neymar who showed a glimpse of what Barcelona stands for.

PSG scored their first for the night when Umtiti fouled Draxler, 20 yards away from goal and the birthday boy Di Maria stepped up and converted it superbly to give PSG a deserved lead in the 16th minute.

PSG spent £34M on Julian Draxler this January and every penny of that amount is like a money well spent when you judge from his superb performance against Barcelona last night. He exposed the weakness of the Spanish make shift right-back Sergio Roberto, who had a torrid time tracking the run of the German superstar Draxler. In the 40th minute, when Messi was dispossessed and Verratti ran forward with the ball and found Draxler who made no mistake and scored his first Champions League goal for PSG to double their lead.
In the second half, Barcelona began the same way they played in the first half with no urgency and purpose in  their play and PSG made them pay for their complacency ten minutes from restart when Di Maria scored his second to ice his birthday cake and five minutes later, he was substituted and he received a standing ovation from the PSG fans. His Argentina compatriot Messi had a night to forget in Paris.  Statistically, that’s one of his worst performance in ages, as a matter of fact, he had only one touch in the opponent 18 yard box.

PSG top scorer Cavani completed the humiliation for Barcelona in the 71st minute when he scored their fourth for the night.

Barcelona only serious attempt on goal came on the 83rd minute when Pique flick on a header from corner but Umtiti failed to convert inside the six yard box. PSG were determined to keep a clean sheet and showed no love to Barcelona on a night the world is celebrating love.

Barcelona have a mountain to climb now at Nou Camp in three weeks and for the record, no team have overturned a four nil deficit in the Champions League.
