We are entering into the penultimate month of the premier league and it is wise we recognize and honour these individuals/players whose efforts in their respective teams this season have earned them the hero status.  Today we are looking at the top five unsung heroes in the premier league.

5. Tom Heaton ( Burnley)

Tom Heaton

Tom Heaton 30, is an English and Burnley goalkeeper.  After his merry go round in the championship, Heaton joined Burnley from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.
Tom Heaton has been a tremendous influence for Burnley and their home form this season.  He has made 280 recoveries and 110 saves, 14  more than any other goalkeeper in the league. He has managed to keep 7 clean sheets in the process. Burnley’s league position is reflection of Heaton’s heroic.

4. Ander Herrera ( Manchester United)

Ander Herrera

Ander Herrera 27, is Manchester United and Spanish midfielder.  He was signed from Atletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014 for £28.8 million after Bilbao had rejected United offer the previous year. The defensive prowess of Herrera has given Paul Pogba the freedom to show his creativity. His work rate in the midfield has never gone unnoticed in the 20 premier league matches he has featured this season with 65 tackles and 67 interceptions to his credit. He has completed 1447 passes and 41 crosses to add to his impressive 2047 touches of the ball.
3. Victor Wanyama ( Tottenham Hotspur )

Victor Wanyama

Victor Wanyama 25, is the Kenyan national team captain and a Tottenham player. He reunited with his boss Mauricio Pochettino last summer when Tottenham paid £11 million to Southampton for his services. Wanyama had since made 28 appearances for the white hart lane club with two wonderful goals.
Wanyama has played more minutes than any other Tottenham Hotspur player this season, with successful 75 tackles and 35 interceptions.  His composure and leadership qualities on the field are evident on how he marshals the midfield, he gives the offensive players the privilege and opportunities to attack; his strength and strong control of the ball also afford defenders the confidence to press higher on the pitch when the need arises.  Victor Wanyama is no doubt a quality  addition and has been a linchpin in their successful run so far this season.

2. Cesar Azpilicueta ( Chelsea )

Cesar Azpilicueta

Cesar Azpilicueta 27, is a Spanish and Chelsea defender. He was signed from Marseille for £6.5 million in summer of 2012 and he made his premier league debut in the 1-1 away draw against Swansea on November 3rd, 2012.
Azpi, as he’s fondly called has made 28 premier league appearances so far for the table toppers Chelsea. His versatility  in the defense is priceless. Azpilicueta contributions to Chelsea’s ten points lead in the premier league is enormous. He has completed more passes than any other defender in the league with 1590, also he has made more touches of the ball (2232) than any other player in his position. Since Chelsea switched to the back three, he has contributed immensely to their 13 clean sheet record in the league.

1. Idrissa Gueye ( Everton )

Gana is our number one unsung hero.

Idrissa Gueye 27, is a Senegalese international.  He was signed from Aston Villa for a mere £7.1 million last summer but so far, he’s likely the best bargain of the season. Gana as it’s written on his Everton jersey, has made 23 premier league appearances for Everton with a goal to show for his efforts.

Gana is a disciplined and strong tackler with an amazing personality.  He made 140 interceptions and 108 tackles last season with Aston Villa and was second to N’golo Kante last season but this season, he has improved on his tackles with a successful 106 tackles and 59 interceptions.  Everton surge and rise in the premier league owns much to the stability and confidence he gives the back-four of Everton’s defense.
